Sherwan Taha Ameen Receives Outstanding Educator and Researcher Award at Artista Achievers Awards

QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Excellence in education, global scholarship, and peace-centered leadership took center stage as Sherwan Taha Ameen was formally honored with the Outstanding Educator and Researcher Award during the recently concluded Artista Achievers Awards.

Born in Duhok, Mr. Ameen is a Kurdish scholar whose professional journey spans more than sixteen years across academia, civil society, and humanitarian institutions. He currently serves as a lecturer in the Department of English at University of Duhok, where he contributes to the advancement of language education, teacher development, curriculum innovation, and student-centered learning. Public academic profiles list him as a lecturer affiliated with the university and active researcher in education and linguistics.  

His educational accomplishments reflect a strong international academic foundation. Mr. Ameen earned his MSc in Educational Studies (TESOL) with Distinction from University of Glasgow in 2015, where he focused on distance education practices in the Kurdistan Region. This research helped establish his continuing interest in adult learning systems, inclusive pedagogy, and educational modernization. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature from Salahaddin University.  

Further strengthening his global perspective, he participated in the SUSI Scholarship Program at University of Montana in 2016 and later completed a specialized Human Rights program through UNICRI in partnership with John Cabot University in 2024. These international engagements deepened his expertise in democratic values, civic education, human rights, and educational leadership.

His professional experience includes leadership roles as Program Manager at the IR Institute, Education and Livelihoods Manager with ACTED, and with Save the Children International. Through these roles, he helped support vulnerable communities through education access, youth development, and capacity-building programs in challenging environments.

He also served as interpreter and translator for DA Limited UK Home Office, demonstrating his cross-cultural communication skills and commitment to supporting individuals navigating complex migration and legal systems. These experiences illustrate a rare blend of academic excellence and practical humanitarian engagement.
